for bass clarinet and electronics; sources include Chernobyl dispatcher recordings

Performed by Madison Greenstone (Bass clarinet)

As the Dusk Becomes Silence, for bass-clarinet and electronics, explores anthropogenic activities’ impact on organic nature — the irreversible change or destruction of its original features. The main solo instrument interacts with the tape’s organic sound sources continually evolving using granular processing. Those sound sources include samples of the Geiger counter, prepared piano, and an authentic recording of the first radio communications of dispatchers shortly after the explosion at the 4th power unit of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986.
