One Day They Will Be Dancing
Performed by Fima Chupakhin (Piano)
The first movement of Fima Chupakhin’s piano suite One Day They Will Be Dancing was written before February 2022 as a reflection of the composer’s own separation from his family in Ukraine (Chupakhin has lived in the United States since 2015). The work expanded as he learned of other families separated by the ongoing war and their inability to experience the ordinary pleasures of everyday life together. The complete suite is the composer’s attempt to find hope in the idea that reunions are possible — that even those who lost their loved ones on the battlefield, and are forever separated, will enjoy their time together in the afterlife.
