choral, setting of a poem by Oleksandr Oles; movement from the triptych “Every Year”

Performed by Ukrainian Chorus “Dumka” of New York (Chorus)

Red Sun After Oleksandr Oles by Hanna Havrylets (heard here as “The Sun Was Burning”) is the last of a choral triptych from the composer’s early works. It is based on the poetic cycle Every Year by the Ukrainian poet Oleksander Oles. Each of its three parts symbolizes a picture of the nature of one season or another. The third part, Red Sun, reproduces the arrival of summer, when the sun is at its zenith and warms everything around with its healing rays. The music is full of the energy of joy and light.
