Performed by Gleb Kanasevich (Clarinet), Paul Cho (Clarinet)

The title of Ksenia Stetsenko’s Fluchtlingesdodekaphonie No. 24 (“Refugee Dodecaphony No. 24”) is full of meaning: the full-scale Russian invasion began on February 24th; the number also references “The 24th Paragraph” that regulates policy toward temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine in Germany, where the composer found shelter; and the miniature consists of 24 measures. Twenty-four measures of emotional experience go in circles amid total uncertainty, wandering the world in search of home — being a refugee means standing on unstable ground. This extreme insecurity and fragility is represented through the twelve-tone, or dodecaphonic, system, while a flicker of hopeful homecoming is expressed through the harmonious resolution of the conclusion. It was premiered by Pavlo Burdeinyi and Oleksandr Nesterov at Lviv Organ Hall in April 2023.
