Switchings for string quartet was written in the spring of 2021 in the city of Irpin near Kyiv. The motivation for the composition was a proposal from the Ukrainian musician Denys Karachevtsev, cellist and leader of the Akoustikos Art Group. The work uses algorithmic composition methods and some jazz idioms — including the well-known “Lick” — along with the active use of quarter-tone microchromatics.
