Romances and Songs after Ukrainian Poems, Op. 91 was written in Paris in 1937. The brother of Yakiv Stepovy, Theodor Akimenko (Fedir Yakymenko) wrote in a variety of genres, blending neo-Romanticism with more modernist tendencies. Although he worked in Tbilisi, St Petersburg and Kharkiv, he eventually settled in France in 1928. The set heard here comprises three poems by Oleksandr Oles.
