Volodymyr Runchak, composer

Volodymyr Runchak (b. June 12, 1960) is a Ukrainian composer and conductor whose works have been performed at festivals in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lutsk, Munich, Paris, and New York. He hosted “New Music in Ukraine” on Ukraine’s National Radio for three years and founded the “New Music in Ukraine” chamber ensemble in 1988, with which he has premiered over 400 contemporary works. He is artistic director of the International Festival of New Music “Kharkiv Contemporary” and of the “Ukrainian Day of the Accordion” festival, and has guest-conducted orchestras in Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Israel, and France, serving as head guest conductor of Azerbaijan’s Kara Karaev State Chamber Orchestra from 2007–2011.

Fingerprints on Strings, Keys and Valves by Volodymyr Runchak was written in 2019 for Jean-Luc Menet and Ensemble Alternance (France). The performance premiered in Paris in 2019. That year the ensemble also performed this work in Dnipro, Zaporizhia, Kyiv and Odesa as part of their tour of Ukraine.
